Naturalization
Hearings are usually held by the Miscellaneous Judge once a month
at 10:00 A.M. on the third Friday of each month. The Immigration
and Naturalization Service sends a list of proposed dates to
cover an entire calendar year. This schedule is approved by the
Chief Judge for Pittsburgh Hearings, approved by Judge McLaughlin
for Erie Hearings, and approved by the Chief Judge for Johnstown
Hearings.
The U. S. District Court maintains
an alphabetical index of all petitioners naturalized by this
court from September 1906 until September 30, 1991. The index
contains the name and petition numbers of all petitioners, and
in most cases also an address. This information is necessary
to complete a form to order copies of Naturalization Petitions
and Declarations of Intent from the National Archives in Philadelphia,
where the records are stored.
This index is located
in the Clerk of Courts Office in Room 311 on the 3rd Floor
of the U. S. Courthouse
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The public has access to this index
from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Any requests
for Court personnel to search this index must be accompanied
by a check made payable to Clerk, U. S. District Court in the
amount of $26.00 to cover the search fee. This form and assistance
in completing it are available to the public in the Clerk's Office
Intake Section located in Room 311 on the 3rd Floor of the U.
S. Courthouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The form can also
be obtained by writing to Clerk, U. S. District Court, PO Box
1805, Pittsburgh, PA 15230, or by calling (412) 208-7500.
