Air Crash Near Pittsburgh on September 8, 1994
All 134 passengers and crew members aboard the Boeing 737-300 aircraft died. As a result of the accident, forty-seven cases against USAir, The Boeing Company and Parker-Hannifin Corporation were filed in the Western District of Pennsylvania and consolidated for pretrial proceedings.

 

Hoots v. Commonwealth
The Woodland Hills School District was created as the result of a federal desegregation case that was pending in the Western District of Pennsylvania for more than thirty years.

 

USAirways, Inc. v. Parker-Hannifin Corp
This was a product liability action arising out of the USAir Flight 427 crash occurring on September 8, 1994, which killed the captain, the first officer, three flight attendants and 127 passengers.

United States v. Curtis Strong
The most publicized trial in the history of the Western District of Pennsylvania, and one of the most publicized in the United States, because it involved the sale of cocaine to major league baseball players who had been granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for their testimony.
